Weight: 10–20 pounds
The Mauxie, also called a Dachtese, is a cross between the Dachshund and Maltese breeds. Its coat is a soft and fluffy and come in a variety of colors. The Mauxie will often have fine features like the Maltese and strong, lean bodies like the Daschund. This breed has round, medium sized eyes, floppy ears, and long tails that may be set high. They also tend to have a medium-sized muzzle and short legs.
The Mauxie can be energetic, playful, and social. Like many small breeds, the Mauxie will also sometimes think they are larger than they are and therefore engage larger dogs in play. The Mauxie tends to do well with other pets and dogs, but when it comes to children the Mauxie will prefer gentle, older kids who won't tug on their tails or fur.
Since the Mauxie has a medium to long coat it can be prone to matting. They may not have the full, dense coats of the Maltese but they still require frequent grooming.
Even though the Mauxie is a small breed they are energetic and should have daily exercise, walks, or playtime. Due to their small size, they can be good apartment dogs if trained well.
