They are fast too but play and a daily walk are enough to cool their need for exercise. They make great family pets, do well in apartments, and get along great with other dogs, pets, and kids but generally do best with older children who are gentler handlers. Coat colors include black with rust markings, chocolate with tan, red and stag red (red with black hairs).
Disposition
The Miniature Pinscher is both proud and courageous. Known for how loyal they are to their owners, they are spirited, alert and have lots of energy. They are also intelligent, lively, and brave. The Miniature Pinscher puppies are good for apartment life. It is very active indoors and will do okay without a yard.
The Miniature Pinscher is a hardy little dog, both loyal and courageous, but the owner must provide gentle, proper leadership from a young age, so it doesn’t fall into Small Dog Syndrome, a human-induced behavior that leads the dog to believe it’s the boss. This can cause problems where the dog may become over-protective and aggressive toward other dogs and suspicious of strangers. The Min Pin is eager to learn from and please its owner and is very smart, so it learns quickly when taught properly.
Min Pins need a daily walk. Play will take care of a lot of their exercise needs, though as with all breeds, play will not fulfill their primal instinct to walk. Dogs that do not get to go on daily walks are more likely to display behavior problems. Your Min Pin will greatly appreciate a good romp in a safe, open area such as a fenced-in yard. Make sure any yard or play area has a fence high enough around it to prevent their determined efforts to escape and explore.
These little dogs will chew small objects and can choke on them. Also, be careful not overfeed your Min Pin.
Training
The Miniature Pinscher is extremely smart and learns quickly. It’s this breed’s nature to want to learn from its owner. You will be amazed at how fast the Miniature Pinscher obeys and understands you. The Min Pin takes really well to obedience classes and training. It’s best to socialize this dog, like most all breeds, from a young age with other puppies, pets, and people.
House training the Min Pin can be a bit tough as it’s known for leaving small puddles which, left unseen by its owner, falsely trick the dog into thinking this is okay. Constant pee breaks each hour are required to properly potty train the Min Pin.
The Min Pin is good with other pets and children, but owners should provide proper leadership because like with all pets, their behavior depends entirely upon how you treat the dog. You should not let this little dog fall victim to Small Dog Syndrome, which is when the dog (lacking owner leadership) believes he is the pack leader. That is when problems arise. The dog can become demanding, headstrong and will bark too much. If you are not this dog’s pack leader, it can become protective and even aggressive with other dogs despite its diminutive size. It can also become rather suspicious towards strangers.
Your Min Pin will make a wonderful pet provided you establish rules, set boundaries and limitations, establish yourself as the pack leader and provide a daily walk or exercise.
