FAQs

At Puppies ‘N Love and Animal Kingdom, we know bringing home a puppy is a big decision, one that comes with excitement, joy, and lots of questions. Transparency and education are at the heart of everything we do. We want you to feel confident that your puppy is coming from a responsible, caring source and that you’ll be supported every step of the way.

Below, we’ve gathered answers to the most common questions families ask when choosing their new companion.

Where do you get your puppies from?

We partner only with responsible, U.S.D.A.–licensed breeders and qualified hobby breeders,
all of whom are regulated and inspected to ensure the very highest standards of care.
Whether we work with them directly or through a trusted broker, every single breeder we
work with must also pass our own rigorous screening process, which goes far beyond federal
requirements.

In line with Arizona law (SB1248), we are completely transparent about our breeders.
On each kennel card in-store (and on every puppy’s online listing), you’ll find:

  • The breeder’s full name
  • The state where they’re based
  • Their USDA license number (when applicable)
  • A direct link to their USDA records

We also share any photos, pamphlets, or inspection details provided by the breeder, so you
can see firsthand the kind of environment your puppy came from.

Our goal is simple: to give every puppy the best possible start in life and every family the
peace of mind that comes with knowing exactly where their puppy was raised.

What do you look for in a breeder?
        Compassion

Compassion & Integrity

Breeders must be in it for the right reasons: a genuine love for dogs and a commitment to
always put their well-being first.

            Healthcare

Healthcare Oversight

Every breeder we work with partners with licensed veterinarians, who manage vaccination
schedules and perform thorough exams before puppies can ever travel to us.

            Exercise

Exercise & Enrichment
Dogs should have room to move, play, and explore. We look for facilities that provide safe,
clean environments with daily exercise, structured socialization, and enrichment opportunities
that nurture both body and mind.

          Enrichment

Early Socialization
The earliest weeks of life are critical. Many of our breeders are family-run operations where
children and other family members help gently expose puppies to everyday experiences, setting
them up for a confident, happy future.

Living Environment

Safe, Comfortable Living

Clean water, quality food, daily sanitation, indoor/outdoor runs, and comfortable housing are
non-negotiables.

This blend of medical care, compassion, and enrichment is what creates the happy, healthy
puppies we’re proud to place with families.

What is a licensed, professional breeder?

A licensed professional breeder is someone who has chosen dog breeding as their full-time
work, dedicating their days to the care of their animals. These breeders are:

  • Federally licensed and routinely inspected by the USDA
  • Required to work with licensed veterinarians to maintain vaccination schedules and overall health
  • Held to facility standards that include clean kennels, proper housing, and safe environments for both adult dogs and puppies

In fact, many of the breeders we work with operate in states where the standards of care exceed
USDA requirements. These facilities undergo not only USDA inspections, but also unannounced
state inspections, which hold them accountable to an even higher level of animal welfare.

This dual oversight, combined with our own internal screening, means families can feel confident
their puppy has come from a professional breeder who values care, not shortcuts.

What is a hobby breeder?

Hobby breeders are small-scale breeders; by federal definition, they have four or fewer breeding females in their care. Because of their size, they are considered “exempt” from federal licensing.

But don’t let the word exempt fool you. Our standards remain exactly the same: whether a breeder has four dogs or forty, they must demonstrate a genuine love for animals and a commitment to responsible, ethical breeding.

Many of our hobby breeders are family-run, where dogs live as part of the household and puppies are lovingly socialized by every member of the family. We’re proud to partner with some of the very best in the country, knowing they raise puppies with the same compassion and care we would demand for our own.

Do you monitor your breeders?

Absolutely. We have a full-time Breeder Support Team dedicated to thoroughly researching and scrutinizing every breeder we work with. Before any partnership begins, breeders must prove they meet both the law and our own high standards. But it doesn’t stop there. We also inspect breeder records with every single transaction, and our team personally visits many breeders each year. These in-person inspections allow us to check facilities firsthand, build strong relationships, and confirm the dogs are not only healthy but happy and well cared for.

We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy when it comes to violations. We will not accept any breeder with a U.S.D.A. direct violation for at least two years, and even indirect violations (like untrimmed grass) are carefully reviewed. If there is any violation that could affect the health or welfare of the animals, we won’t work with them, period.

We do not accept dogs from puppy mills. Their practices are cruel and unacceptable, and we are committed to ensuring they are eliminated for good.

What is a puppy mill?

According to American Humane, a puppy mill is any breeding operation where profit comes before the health and wellbeing of the dogs, with little or no effort to address welfare issues. These facilities are not only inhumane — they are illegal.

We strongly oppose puppy mills and everything they represent. For us, the welfare of the dogs always comes first. That’s why we only work with compassionate breeders who share our values and are committed to raising happy, healthy puppies with love and respect.

How are your puppies transported?

Our puppies travel in safety and comfort. They arrive in custom-designed pet transportation vehicles that are fully air-conditioned, with kennels built for safety, cleanliness, and proper ventilation. Each trip is overseen by two trained Professional Puppy Transporters who carefully monitor the puppies throughout the journey, ensuring they have continuous access to food, fresh water, and comfort until they reach us safe and sound.

How do you ensure your puppies are healthy?

Health and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. Before traveling to us,
every puppy must be examined by a licensed veterinarian who certifies them healthy.
Once they arrive, our on-staff veterinarian performs a second, comprehensive
head-to-tail check to confirm their condition.

During their stay, our puppies are:

  • Closely monitored by full-time Animal Care Technicians
  • Kept up to date on vaccinations
  • Maintained on a strict feeding, bathing, and medical schedule overseen by our veterinarian

In addition, each of our stores is visited regularly by a licensed veterinarian to ensure
every pup continues to thrive. We spare no expense when it comes to their care, because
their wellbeing always comes first.

What does a puppy’s average day look like in your store?

Life here is carefully structured to give each puppy the right mix of care, socialization, and play. From the moment our Animal Care Teams arrive in the morning until closing time at night, every pup is given individualized attention to meet their needs — whether that’s medical care, enrichment, or a little extra love.

Our puppies benefit from our Puppy Enrichment Program, developed with the guidance of an experienced behaviorist. This program ensures they aren’t just cared for physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Each day includes:

  • Time to exercise, play, and learn basic training
  • Socialization with our Puppy Specialists, our staff, and visitors
  • Structured routines to help them grow into happy, well-adjusted companions

Of course, there’s plenty of love, too. Their stay with us is temporary, but we make sure every moment is filled with the love, attention, and enrichment they deserve.

Will my puppy be microchipped?

Yes. Every puppy comes with a microchip that is automatically registered with your information at the time of purchase. Each family also receives a lifetime PetKey membership, which securely houses medical records and provides ongoing support.

Will my puppy come with a health warranty?

Absolutely. Your new puppy is protected with a 15-Day Primary Medical Warranty, covering reimbursement of veterinary expenses for infectious or contagious conditions (up to the purchase price). Beyond that, every puppy also comes with a 2-Year Hereditary and Congenital Warranty, far exceeding the 60 days required by law.

Families who continue feeding Earthblend dog food can extend this warranty free of charge to 5 years. In addition, we offer an optional Major Medical Surgery Warranty and an Animal Replacement Policy—unique protections rarely available through standard pet insurance.

Our warranties are designed to protect you and, most importantly, ensure your puppy thrives long after they leave our care.

How do I know what puppy is best for me and my lifestyle?

We see puppy matching as both an art and a responsibility. Our Puppy Specialists take time to learn about you—your lifestyle, allergies, type of home, family setup, work schedule, and commitment to training and exercise. This helps us recommend a breed that will flourish in your care.

We’re also honest about the demands of certain breeds. When a family is interested in a dog with higher needs, we walk through pros and cons in detail, making sure you know exactly what to expect. That way, your puppy isn’t just a good fit for you, but you’re a safe, supportive fit for them.

For a fun first step, try our free Puppy Matchmaker Quiz—a lighthearted way to start narrowing down the breeds that might suit you best.

Do all puppies find homes?

Yes! Most puppies meet their new families within days or weeks of arriving at our stores. Those who take a bit longer are reduced in price to ensure they all go home to loving families in a timely manner.

What is the Homes for Life Program?

The Homes for Life Program is our lifelong promise to every puppy we place. Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes families can no longer care for their dogs. In those cases, we require that the dog be returned to us rather than surrendered elsewhere.

When a dog comes back to us, we:

  • Evaluate their health and behavior
  • Provide any necessary rehabilitation and training
  • Spay/neuter (if not already done)
  • Carefully match them with a new forever family

We get to know each dog thoroughly and only approve adopters who can meet their specific needs. This ensures our dogs are always safe, loved, and never at risk of becoming part of the homeless pet population. Learn more about our program here.

Can you help me find a specific puppy?

Yes! You can browse the breeds we regularly have available here. If you’re set on something specific—such as breed, gender, or coloration—we also offer special orders. These require a small deposit, refundable after three unsuccessful attempts to find the puppy you’re seeking.
