The Papitese is a hybrid mix between the Papillon and Maltese breeds. Sometimes called the Maltillon, these dogs are very smart, friendly and wonderful to have around. The Papitese is small with long, silky fur and ears that typically stand semi-erect. The breed picked-up the coloring of the Papillon, the long coat of the Maltese and the temperament of both. They come in almost any color including cream, gold, white, silver, blue and black though most are a combination. Their double coat is usually long, soft and wavy. They may also be non-shedding like a Maltese or light shedding like a Papillon but make a good companion for those with allergies to dogs. They are wonderfully sweet in nature and easily trainable because they are so eager to please. Discover more about our Papitese puppies for sale below!
The Papitese is a gentle, responsive, and very social little dog that loves to be around people, dogs, cats, and other pets. It is going to show you a cheerful, affectionate, and loyal personality. The Papitese is a sensitive and gentle soul that relies on human companionship for its happiness and enjoys being around people whenever possible, so leaving the dog alone for long periods of time may lead to separation anxiety. Always on alert, the Papitese will make sure you know when a new person or animal is arriving with their high pitch bark.
Papitese are highly intelligent and easy to train. This curious and confident breed takes well to most forms of training and enjoys people pleasing. However, they can be sensitive so harsh words can easily frighten and upset them. They do best with positive praise and consistent rewards for good behavior. Like other breeds, begin training at a young age in order to avoid anti-social and other negative behaviors as they grow older.
Playtime with family is a plus for this breed and regular walks will suffice for exercise. While small, the Papitese can be high energy and active, so daily walks and playtime should keep them satisfied. Most Papitese will adapt well to apartment life or a small home and don’t necessarily need access to a yard if they get adequate exercise. The Papitese is also not the greatest for cold climates. Due to their small size, they can get cold quickly in the winter and should not be left outside for prolonged periods unless the weather is mild.
