Pomsky Puppies For Sale Animal Kingdom Arizona

Description

The Pomsky, sometimes called a Husky Pom or Pom Husky, is not a purebred dog: it’s a cross between the Pomeranian and Husky. Rarer than other “designer dogs” bred for special characteristics, the Pomsky has been gaining popularity throughout North America and Europe. The appearance and size of a Pomsky puppies can vary greatly, but very often they look like miniature huskies. Discover more about our Pomsky puppies for sale below!

Disposition

The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed dog is to study all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. Not all designer hybrid dogs being bred are 50% purebred to 50% purebred. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generational crosses.

Pomsky puppies are loving, energetic, playful, and self-assured; traits both the Siberian Husky and Pomeranian have. These dogs are very intelligent, but they inherit their parents’ temperaments and can be significantly harder to train than other dogs. It can be unpredictable, as it really depends on each dog’s parents, but on the whole they’re described as gentle, playful, and confident. Being highly protective of their owners, the Pomsky can make great guard dogs; even trying to take on an adversary larger than themselves they view as a threat to their family despite their small size.

Unlike the Siberian Husky, the Pomeranian can sometimes be cautious around young children and some Pomskies can display this trait. Some breeders say these dogs are the perfect family dog, while others suggest you should pay attention around small children, and recommend Pomskies only for single people and families with teenagers. A Pomsky can get on well with other pets if you introduce them to each other when the dog is still very young.

Exercise

Given their generally small to medium size, the Pomsky can live in a variety of homes, from an apartment to a large house. However, it will require daily exercise and mental stimulation to avoid boredom and destructive behavior. Generally speaking you’ll do best if you take this dog for at least a 20-minute walk in the morning, and a longer one in the afternoon, plus one or two play sessions during the day but if you work too much and you can’t afford a pet walker or doggy daycare, you live in a small apartment with no yard and little space for your dog to burn her energy, or you are leaving the Pomsky’s rearing to small children you should consider a different breed.

They’re very active dogs that love to play with their owners but be warned that these little guys need to stay busy, otherwise they get bored and can develop destructive behavior.

Grooming

The Pomsky has a double-coat structure composed of the topcoat (typically called guard hairs) and the undercoat. The topcoat prevents water from getting on the undercoat; therefore, preventing the dog’s skin from getting cold and/or wet. It also helps repel moisture and dirt.

The undercoat is thicker, denser, shorter and with a wooly texture that is very important in protecting your dog from rapid temperature changes. It both keeps the dog warmer in low or lower temperatures and cooler when the temperature is hot or higher. In other words, it’s your dog’s body temperature thermostat. The undercoat also protects the dog’s skin from sunburn by preventing direct sunrays from reaching it – considering dogs have much thinner and fewer skin layers than humans. It is the undercoat that sheds throughout the year which is why many of these dogs blow massive fur-balls twice a year.

Importance of Breeders

All dogs should come from responsible breeders only, but with Pomskies, this is an absolute must. This being said, as this mixed breed is relatively new, many of the Pomskies don’t have official standards, and some breeders have little experience compared to other dogs. So if you want to have a healthy puppy with certified origins, you should buy it from a person or place which puts their dogs’ health first.
